The Mindanao Shippers’ Conference

Part of its mandate, the Philippines Shippers’ Bureau (PSB) of the Department of Trade  and Industry (DTI) has organized shippers’ association in an outport in Mindanao, a shippers’ conference was conducted as the first flagship activity by the association. Since 2002, four (4) Mindanao –wide shippers’ conferences were organized   spearheaded by the host shippers’ associations in coordination with the concerned DTI-Provincial Offices and PSB, and in cooperation with the Growth and Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program.

The topics in this conference include:

  1. Vision for Modern Transport Logistics in the Philippines
  2.  Philippine Ship owners’ Response to Emerging Globalization
  3. Constraints in Ports and Shipping Sector
  4. Attaining World-class Standards for Mindanao Ports
  5. Shippers’ Association: Its Value and Effectiveness
  The participants found out that this conference is a good start for the Mindanao shipping industry stakeholders to meet, gain better appreciation of the status of the industry, and recommend measures to improve the industry. The shippers were challenged to organize a Mindanao-wide organization and have one voice.
